A 14-year-old boy was arrested early Tuesday morning after making plans to kill at least three people at Huntland School.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving a juvenile who made concerning statements and was later found in possession of multiple weapons in Huntland. Monday afternoon the Sheriff’s Office was notified by school officials about multiple student statements regarding threats made by a juvenile. The reports described verbal threats of violence involving weapons, as well as behavior that caused concern among students and staff. Early this morning, deputies responded to Huntland, where the juvenile was located near Main Street, approximately two blocks from Huntland School. The juvenile had a sword, bow, arrows, knives, and other personal belongings. The juvenile has been charged with three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, Threats of Mass Violence, Unlawful Carrying and Possession of a Weapon, and Making a False Report to Law Enforcement. The identities of the suspect and potential victims can not be released because they are all juveniles. Sheriff Tim Fuller stated, “The safety of our students and schools remains our top priority. We will always act swiftly on any information regarding threats to ensure our community remains safe. I commend the quick action and teamwork by our patrol division, school resource officer division, and criminal investigation division.” While the investigation remains ongoing, THERE IS NO CURRENT THREAT TO STUDENTS OR STAFF AT HUNTLAND SCHOOL OR ANY OTHER FRANKLIN COUNTY SCHOOLS.
